North End Boise Real Estate

Many clients today are interested in buying homes in the Northend of Boise. Who can blame them? The Northend real estate market is full of spectacular and interesting old Boise area homes. Plus, living near downtown Boise definitely has its perks. Here are a few reasons why I believe that the Northend is a great neighborhood to consider if you can afford it:

• Homes: There really are some beautiful old homes in this neighborhood. Whether you are looking for a large 4 bedroom or a cozy 1-2 bed, you can find a home that fits your needs in the Northend. Of course, you will pay more in this neighborhood than you would on the Bench or in Nampa or Meridian. But if you know that you want to live on the north side of Boise, you should expect older homes with a lot of character.
• Culture: I am a big proponent of the idea that every neighborhood has its unique culture. I am not a big "cookie cutter subdivision" hater because you can find great neighbors and neighborhood events in those areas. That being said, the North End definitely provides many great neighborhood activities. Between different events downtown and in the parks, you will enjoy this neighborhood for the people and culture.
• Walking City: You really have to live in the right part of town to be able to enjoy the fact that a city is a walking city. In my opinion, there is no better place to enjoy walking in Boise than the Northend. You can walk downtown, walk in the foothills, walk to the co-op, or walk your kids to school. While some people could care less about whether a city is a walking city, to those people for whom it is a big issue, the North End is definitely where you want to look for a home.

Reflections on Selling a House in the Dark Snowy Days of Winter

Okay, so since it is snowing outside, the topic of today's discussion is whether bad weather is necessarily bad for your real estate listing. Now, common knowledge is that you sell houses in the spring and early summer. Nobody would think that December or January or February in Boise ID is the perfect time to sell a home. And okay, I can see why people think this. For the most part, our industry is focused on the good weather days.
Here are a few reasons why I think it is hard to sell your real estate property in winter:

• It's cold outside
• Snow, slush and rain can make it hard to look at the yard, roof and exterior of the house. 
• It's cold outside.
• Since the sun sets earlier, it is hard to get people in after work to look at a home.
• People don't want to move in the winter, because it's cold outside.

However, there are a few things that the winter has going for it that the spring does not. When many people think of buying a house, they imagine making the house cozy for family and friends to visit on special occasions and holidays. Nice holiday and seasonal touches to your house can help people make a connection with the property. Now, I am not saying that you should put up an inflatable snowman or go Chevy Chase overboard with the lights. But, a nice tree, tasteful holiday/festive arrangements, and the smell of cookies, apple cider, and warm fires can definitely make a real estate property attractive.
